Viterbo, thirty minutes drive from Civitella, is the main administrative town of the region but its old city walls encircle a well preserved historic centre. It was a papal seat during the thirteenth century, when the Popes were forced to flee Rome, and much of the splendid architecture, including the thirteenth century Papal Palace, reflects the importance this lent to the town. There are museums, palaces and churches to visit and admire or simply wander the S. Pellegrino district at the heart of the city where centuries of history, culture and architecture surround you.
