Civitella lies in the heart of ancient Etruria, which covered a large part of modern Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Recent years have seen a huge increase in interest in this ancient civilisation which was greatly eclipsed by the subsequent rise of the Roman empire. Civitella itself boasts Etruscan foundations and you can visit many archaeological sites and museums in the region to learn more about these ancient people. Viterbo, Orvieto, Vulci, Tarquinia and Norchia are all easily reached and we can arrange for the hire of a professional guide if you would like a more academic approach.

As well as all the treasures of Rome itself, reached in 65 minutes by train from our local station at Alviano, there are also many interesting Roman remains in the more immediate locality. The natural hot springs of the area attracted a great deal of Roman developments and the ruins dot the landscape. Also of interest is the Roman theatre at Ferento, on the way to Viterbo which has the added attraction of occasional performances in the summer months
